Cory

Cory was born to a drug addicted mother which caused him to be mentally retarded. Cory always wanted to go to school. All the kids in the neighborhood did. That was the way to make friends. Cory desperately wanted friends. He finally had his chance. His mother enrolled him in special education classes at a public school. The students in class weren't mentally retarded, just slow learners. Cory didn't fit in and wasn't able to make friends. He was bored and lonely until a sixteen year-old foster kid by the name of Devin moved into his house. Cory hoped Devin would be his friend. Devin ignored him and seldom came home. One night, Cory couldn't find his special blanket. He could hide under his special blanket and it would protect him from monsters. Without his blanket, the safest place for Cory to be was Devin's room. The monsters never set foot in there. That night Devin decided to come home. Cory was hiding in Devin's bed. Devin remembered how he felt when his blanket was lost in the orphanage. It was important for Devin to find Cory's blanket. Devin helped Cory retrace his steps all the way to the park. It had rained earlier that night. They found Cory's blanket in a puddle of mud. Devin put Cory's blanket in the washer. To make Cory feel safe, Devin read Cory a bedtime story. Every night after that, Devin would read to Cory. Cory gained more than a friend. He gained a brother.
