When Devin was born, he was wrapped in a
blanket by his mother. The blanket was the last thing his mother touched and it became his
most cherished possession. He took it everywhere he went. When Devin first came to the
orphanage, the nuns lost his special blanket. Devin never forgot the pain of losing his
precious possession. Because Devin was a quiet kid, he was tested by the kids in the
orphanage. Devin beat their test by fighting back. Devin chose to be alone and was
respected for it. The kids found someone else to beat up; the little boy who never cried.
Devin remembered the little boy his first night in the orphanage. Devin was crying off and
on over his blanket. The little boy crept over and asked Devin if he wanted his blanket.
Devin was too ashamed to answer and pretended to be asleep. The little boy covered Devin
up with his blanket. The little boy never knew Devin was awake. Devin may have stopped
crying, but it was always going to be hard for him to sleep. A few years later and another
sleepless night, Devin would hear the little boy telling his lizard a bedtime story. Devin
looked forward to those nights because those stories would put hime to sleep. One day
after school in the orphanage, Devin saw the little boy who gave him the blanket years
ago, crying on the floor. His lizard had been smached by arock. Devin had never seen the
little boy cry before. Devin knew exactly who was responsible, and that's when all hell
broke loose. That day, Devin fought every kid in school. From that moment on, Devin and
the little boy became friends. His name was Adam. |
