Sirena

All through school, Sirena was known as the girl who smelled bad. Sirena's parents neglected her. They didn't wash her clothes, give her baths, or comb her hair. When Sirena was ten, she began to take care of herself, but the kids never let her forget that she was the girl who smelled bad. At fourteen, Sirena had a crush on a seventeen year old athlete at her school. When he found out Sirena had a crush on him, he asked her out. She thought it was a date, but all the athlete wanted was to have sex with her. Sirena never saw him again. Two months later, she found out she was pregnant and her parents kicked her out of the house. Sirena ran away to another town. She had to lie about her age to get a job. She worked full-time as a maid and part-time as a stripper. Sirena decided that if she had a boy, she would name him Devin. After Sirena's baby was born, she was pressured into giving up her son for adoption. Inspite of giving up her son, Sirena was determined to keep track of him. Sirena visited the orphanage once a week. The nuns at the orphanage suggested that it would be best for her child if she wasn't around. Parents who might want to adopt Devin wouldn't want to know about his fifteen year old unwed mother. Sirena didn't want to cause her son any heartache. She wanted him to have the kind of life she could never give him. Sirena moved away and vowed to come back when her son was twenty-one. She hoped Devin would love her then. At seventeen, Sirena was working in a hospital. She fell in love with one of the patients, Bradley, a kind and gentle man. Bradley had leukemia. Sirena and Bradley had a child together. His name was Gilbert. Bradley died when Gilbert was two. Bradley was the last person Sirena cared about until she met Adam.
